How do I begin working with an Advocate?
Taking the first steps are easy: just use our Advocate Search, found on the main page of our site, to
find the Advocate closest to you. Once you have identified that person, just click on their name and you will get their contact information as well as a little bit about them. Our Advocates like to be contacted via e-mail, phone or snail mail.
If there isn't an Advocate close to you, don't fret. An Advocate from Protected Tomorrows corporate will contact you and let you know what the next steps are to begin planning for your Protected Tomorrows®.
After you contact your Advocate, you will set up a time to meet with that person one on one. During that first meeting, you will share your dreams and fears, as well as your current situation. Your Advocate will help you set up a plan to conquer the fears and reach your dreams, grounded in reality.
Is there a fee associated with working with an Advocate?
The first meeting with your Advocate is complementary. After that, your Advocate will let you know their fee structure after determining what parts of the Process for Protected Tomorrows® will help you the most. Each Advocate sets their own fee structure.
What if I can't afford to work with an Advocate?
The Process for Protected Tomorrows® is a journey best taken with an Advocate. Many of our Advocates will work with you on a sliding scale of fees. However, if you cannot afford to work with an Advocate , you might consider attending one of our all day workshops, or watch for our online Process for Protected Tomorrows, coming in the near future.
How long does the process take?
The Process for Protected Tomorrows® is an ongoing journey that you take at your own pace. Ideally, it is a year-round process that helps you to structure the care for your loved one with special needs, as well as your finanical and legal responsibilities. Once you have made it through the entire process, we review your progress and set new goals for the future. It is the partnership between you and your Advocate and keeps you on course and gives you peace of mind that your loved one will be able to live, work and play to his or her fullest potential.
Do we have to go through the entire process, or can we do parts of it?
You and your Advocate can decide which parts of the Process apply to you and which ones can be saved for a later date. Some may choose to complete all eight stages of the Process for Protected Tomorrows®, and others may choose to only do one or two. The important part is taking that first step.
What if there isn't an Advocate in my area?
You are still able to work with an Advocate. An Advocate from Protected Tomorrows corporate office will contact you and let you know what the next steps are to begin planning for your Protected Tomorrows®. Plus, you also might consider attending one of our all day workshops, or watch for our online Process for Protected Tomorrows, coming in the near future.
Do I have to work with someone in person, or can I go through the process online?
In the near future, you will be able to work through the Process for Protected Tomorrows® online for a reasonable fee. While you will not receive all the benefits of working with an Advocate in person, you will be able to put together a structure to help your loved one with special needs live, work and play to his or her fullest while giving yourself peace of mind.
I already have an estate plan. What is left to do?
The Process for Protected Tomorrows® is much more encompassing than an estate plan. The Process will help you create a Future Care Plan™ for your loved one's education, employment, recreation, housing and retirement. Click here to learn more about the Process for Protected Tomorrows®.
All I want to do is get information on benefits and how I can get additional benefits for my family member. Do you have a resource for that?
We do! Just contact our Benefits Processing Center and one of our team members will get back to you to evaluate your particular situation and provide assistance as necessary. Securing and maintaining benefits is also part of the Process for Protected Tomorrows® and can be incorporated into the work you do with your Advocate at a reduced rate.
I am a member of a support group. Can an Advocate come speak to my group about life planning and benefits?
Absolutely! We speak all over the country. You can view our Event Calendar here, or request a speaker to come to your event or group meeting -- contact us. We also do one and two day workshops for groups of people who would like to work through the Process for Protected Tomorrows® together. This is a great opportunity to get the benefit of our Process with the support from your peers. |
