The Brain Injury Association of Illinois provides programs and services to children, teens and adults who have sustained an acquired brain injury, the families/caregivers, and professionals working with those individuals, as well as an injury prevention program to prevent the preventable injury. The BIA of IL provides an Information & Resource Center, Summer Camps for children and adults, support groups, educational programs, and annual educational conference.

 

Tails for Life

Tails for Life is dedicated to providing companion assistance dogs to service individuals in need.

The approach that Tails for Life takes to successfully match dogs with clients consists of interviews, observations and an assessment of the clients’ needs. Tails for Life will educate the client, provide resources, and assist in the transition. Dogs are trained for a period of one to two years and there is a two to four week transition period.

Tails for Life provides behavior modification programs for pet dog owners and rescue groups in need. These are services for those who have dogs with troublesome behaviors and need help communicating with their companion. These programs are to educate owners, help foster positive behaviors and prevent dogs from being placed in shelters. Currently the staff at Tails for Life is the owner, Jacob Guell, CPDT.

Partners For Progress Therapeutic Riding Center

Partners for Progress, NFP (PFP) is a 501(c)(3) therapeutic riding center located in Wauconda, Illinois. PFP provides horse-based therapy to residents in Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. By using quality trained horses, each individual participant rider can experience the highest quality therapeutic ride with maximum benefits in programs utilizing occupational, physical, & speech therapy programs as prescribed by licensed therapists. These programs allow them to be challenged & become more fully integrated in their homes, schools, and communities. PFP supports over 200 riders per week on 20 therapeutic horses with clinical interventions for functional life gain. Currently, PFP is achieving a 79% goal achievement success rate with their participants that are conquering fears, breaking down walls & achieving monumental milestones.

LifeStyles Academy is a continuing education center where young adults with disabilities can explore various interests including gardening, basic food preparation, art appreciation and computer skills. Job coaches hold one-on-one instruction for resume writing, interview preparation and job searches. Members use our professional kitchen to prepare nutritious meals that they help plan including researching recipes and creating a shopping list. Our staff includes a certified personal trainer to help members build strong and healthy bodies. The fitness room has a wide range of equipment to facilitate group exercise and one-on-one training. Our gym includes a regulation size basketball court and adaptive tennis equipment. Members and their families meet with staff to set personalized enrichment goals for new skills and to learn ways to put those skills into practice.Empowerment and independence are at the foundation of our mission and we encourage our members to become self-advocates to further their own interests.Lesson plans, workshops and guest speakers are geared toward achieving those goals.The Academy provides a nurturing environment where members gain the confidence and skills to become engaged citizens in their community and to meet new people facing the same challenges.
